God's Appointed

God said:

Sometimes you wonder what is the point of it all. A point is a dot in time. You are far more than a mark in time. The point is that you are My child and that you are on earth for Me. That is the point of life, but that does not satisfy you. You want a more definitive answer.

Consider that the point of life is that you are in it, and that it is a privilege to participate in it. More than opportunity, privilege. You chose and were chosen to reveal My glory. That is what you are doing now. That is what you are here for.

You are bewildered on earth and wonder what you are doing here, why and how and when, and, really, how did you get here. It is a mystery to you. It is an unfathomable puzzle. You come to feel that it is a problem given to you without solution because there a mistake must have been made in it somewhere. No one can solve it. Not you, not anyone. Not your fault. You consider you were set up.

Perhaps, rather than considering life an unsolvable mystery, you would consider the possibility of considering life miracle, holy miracle. Perhaps you would consider that there is no missing piece, and that there is nothing to solve. Perhaps you would consider that this presentation of physical life is no small miracle, and that it was given to you in great honor and with faith in you and your perambulation on this plane of the planet Earth.

If you prefer to think of life as a mystery, then the mystery is why you, who originated from Heaven and are destined to reunite here, feel so vague about life on earth, about the purpose of the whole process and about your part in it.

Sometimes you feel you are on a train ride that keeps going but never gets wherever it's supposed to. Sometimes you feel it never goes anywhere, doesn't even chug along. Meanwhile, you can't get off the train, but at some point, you know not when, you will be dropped off somewhere somehow, and that's that. You were an uninformed passenger, stuck on a train and then dumped off. Perhaps you even felt you were a stowaway hiding.

You have heard rumors that there is an Engineer running the train, but mostly that's hearsay. He has quite a reputation and is formally acclaimed all over the train, but you may be unconvinced, certainly bewildered.

You try to take it on faith that there is Someone driving the train and that He knows what He's doing. You would go up front to see if you knew how. You would go up front to help, if you were allowed to. Somehow, the Engineer wants you to stay as a passenger and to help Him from the car you're in.

Instead of twiddling your fingers or chewing your nails, you can move within the train, and you can make the other passengers feel at home, and you may even be able to change the course of the train while you are a simple passenger on it.

You can pull up the window shades and see mountains and fields of flowers. You can see great paintings and you can do marvelous things while you are on the train of life. You can show the sights to others. You can hearten yourself, and you can hearten others.

You can sing a song of life. You can help all the other passengers to cheer. You can make this train ride wonderful. You, just as you are, you can. Have I not appointed you the conductor of this train?

"stuck on a train"

The metaphor of the train, to depict the human condition, has always been my favourite.
A privilege, yes, to live this life, a merciless privilege, too often.
