The Center of Yourself

God said:

You are to love yourself. This is My commandment. Love yourself, and you will love your neighbor. You are your own neighbor. Do not stint your love any longer. Consider yourself your own child, and be kind. Be generous. Be benevolent. Be on the side of love more than anything else. Do not make the demands on yourself that you do. Demand less. Give more. Encircle yourself with love.

You are a perfect Human Being. Sometimes you bump into things. So you bump into things. Perfect Human Beings bump into things. The worst you can accuse yourself of is bumping into things. Don't accuse, and don't punish. Whenever you withdraw love, you punish yourself and who knows how many others.

What if you knew you were a Great Traveler in life? Seamlessly you would go through crowds, board trains, drive a car, check into hotels and shop and have meetings. You'd go through doors. You'd open windows. You'd sleep, you'd rise. You'd eat. You'd travel through a day and then you'd sleep again. Is it not a great thing that you have traveled through a day? You have made it. You got to the end of it. Consider yourself a winner and a wonder.

As you pull down your covers and enter your bed, pat yourself on the shoulder. Say to your yourself in a friendly manner: "Human Being, you did a great job. No matter you bumped into this and that — you came through. I am proud of you for being alive on Earth and for penetrating the density of matter. I know you travel with a blindfold, and I must say you are doing well."

Can you not be a good friend to this clumsy personage and go to sleep with blessings on your lips? Clumsiness is not sin. The worst you can be in life is clumsy, drop an opportunity, fumble the ball, be too accommodating or not accommodating enough, step in puddles, but clumsiness is not to be rued. Density IS clumsy.

As you go to bed, count the good you left behind you today. Count ten good things you did. Never mind about tomorrow. You will do ten more good things. Think of it — you managed the day that you leave behind you now. Who said you had to win the lottery?

You did not have to win a race with yourself. You did not have to make the best deal. The thing is: you dealt. You dealt with life from the platform you stood on. Perhaps you can stand on a higher platform tomorrow. But today, encourage yourself. Encourage yourself for meandering through life. Congratulate yourself. You won the day. It was yours. You had it. And you muddled through it or you sailed. You fulfilled the requirements of the day.

As you go to sleep, your thoughts set the tone for the day to follow. Do not let anything be left over from today. Today is to be left behind. A wonderful day is stirring for you tomorrow. Welcome it. Embrace what is before you, and leave the past of today behind you for the presence of the new day called tomorrow.

Tomorrow you will stride through life. You will smile at stranger and friend alike. You will ring the bell of life. You will remember your status as emissary of God, and you will open doors for yourself, and you will open doors for others. You will know who you are and what you are to do. You will love yourself. You will step through the portals of life and reach further into Heaven. You will sprinkle stardust. You will shine light. You will set off on the journey to the center of yourself called love.

A world of blindfolded wanderers

The “density of matter” is a natural blindfold to our spirit, it blocks our spiritual vision and awareness just like a cloth blindfold blocks our physical eyesight.

I find it fascinating to extend this metaphor of our individual blindfold to the six billion or so inhabitants of our earth. My extension of the metaphor envisions us all wandering the face of the earth blindfolded. Naturally, since we are all blindfolded, we will be constantly bumping into things and into each other. In this metaphor, all of our errors and our suffering are produced by the natural lack of awareness that results from our blindfolds. We are all heroic for agreeing to participate in this bumping experience by agreeing to accept the blindfold we are given at our birth.

One way of looking at our purpose in life, within this metaphor, is that we are learning how to remove our blindfolds, and in so doing, helping others to remove theirs.

It might just be that learning to more fully to love and accept ourselves is the key to removing the blindfold.
