Letter #2667 - Brother's Keeper

I have been twisting my brain over the saying "Brother's Keeper" and I can't find a good translation!!!

I know the meaning, but there is no way it sounds good in Norwegian. The closest thing I've got so far, is something like "my brother's container" and that REALLY sounds absurd.

I've been looking for a bible verse where it might have been translated, I know that Jules from Tarantino's movie Pulp Fiction uses this phrase when he quotes Ezekiel, but the verse doesn't actually exist in reality and I'm not about to start reading the bible from cover to cover.

Does ANYONE know a bible verse where this expression is used? It would be easier to just look up the verse instead of googling this sentence over and over again :)

Dear Margaretha, it's

Dear Margaretha,

it's Genesis 4:9.

Blessing you and your translation work,
Jochen

Aaah wonderful!!! Thank

Aaah wonderful!!! Thank you!!!

But it is as I suspected - we don't have a direct translation of it. It is translated "Am I supposed to look out for my brother?"

Which inevitably means I have to come up with something completely different. Hmmm.....

*waiting for divine inspiration*

Hi Margaretha: The meaning

"Am I responsible for other people in the world"

Hope this helps...Jimi

Dear Margaretha,

Jimi is right, of course, but let me just add a few synonyms from the Thesaurus, maybe they can trigger some idea for a Norwegian solution:

keeper: guardian, custodian, steward, caretaker.

My earlier response got lost, Margaretha! Unless I posted it somewhere else.

Does protector also work in Norwegian?

The main thing, I think, is that your heart feel right with what you choose. The right way will come.

You are really translating hand over fist! It is so good to have you back.

Do you know we never heard back from the Princess of Norway after we sent her Heaven book and CD.

What do you hear about her these days?

It's been pretty quiet

It's been pretty quiet around her the last weeks (well, at least I haven't heard anything) so I'm not sure what's going on!

Yes, I woke up this morning with the word "protector" in Norwegian in my head - guess that's the one, huh? ;)
