The Folly of Judgment
When you feel discouraged, you have gone away from your heart. It is that simple. When you notice that you have strayed from your heart, you punish yourself with discouragement. It is a world habit of yours to do that. You dishearten yourself because you made a judgment and consider yourself guilty. You will always consider that your assessment is correct, but the act of judgment is inappropriate and brings you pain of one kind or another. In effect, you abandon your heart, and accept recrimination instead. You are a hard taskmaster. You will brook no error. And that is your error.
You are mistaken about any mistake you make. You are mistaken about its place in your life. You have held it as a great event when it is only an incident. You rap your hand because a pencil fell from it. You shoot daggers at yourself. You call yourself names. Over an occurrence, you call yourself fool. You call yourself unbeautiful. You call yourself fragile. All of this is untrue. Whatever your basis, your denouncements are untrue. Do not denounce yourself. Uplift.
Judgment is arbitrary. Where any act falls in the scale of life is not your call. It is not anyone's. All judgment creates damage. Great praise as well as condemnation does damage. Both are false. Someone is not better because he got an accolade any more than he is worse for a condemnation. One is not better because he went down Main Street instead of State. One is not worse because he turned around or made a false move. If there were not judgment on earth, everyone would be so happy.
Judgment abrades you. It wears you down. Judger or judged, it takes its toll.
Judgment comes from the concept of fault. It is looking in the wrong place. You don't know what is mistake because you do not know where something leads. You don't know the difference between error and auspiciousness. You think you do. In retrospect you think so, but who cares about that; what is the good of retrospect. You cannot unwind judgment. It has already played its game and walked off the court. Judgment is great folly. Win or lose, it loses.
Whatever error has occurred, it is past. Do not do so much examination. Do not waste your moments of eternity on a report card. Do not condemn. Give yourself a passing grade. Be careful of what self-abnegations you make for they will follow you.
Scold yourself for scolding.
Today know that a path of righteousness leaves no place for denigration. Righteousness is not haughty, or it is not righteousness.
Consider that you are always going in the right direction. Like a flower, you go towards the sun. You do not berate a flower because it is big or small, or red or white, or that it has not bloomed yet. You certainly don't insult it. What do you do? You nourish it. You water it. You expect that it will bloom. In its own time it will bloom.
Can you not be so kind to yourself as you are to a flower? Can you not be so kind to another Human being who also needs your kindness. Can you not be benevolent on earth rather than harping. Can you not enter the light of My heart?
Of course, you can. And, of course, you will. Why not let go of judgment, which comes only from the past? When you are in the present, there is no place for judgment. It cannot exist. It can only intrude and take you away from your heart.
