I cannot make sense of that segment "nor can you be the mother who held your baby in your arms". I thought you meant: "nor can you be the mother who held you baby in her arms". I'm lost in the bushes. Can you paraphrase it?

Beloved Normand, the way I see it, this overall you can't be the baby you once were, nor can you be the young mother who once held the baby in her arms. Even if the mother and grown child live together in the same house now, they are not the same.
My children mourn for that which was and is no more.

I can see that the mixed pronouns and antecedents made these lines difficult to follow.
Okay, what do you think? Does the passage have to be changed?
