In this Heavenletter there is a sentence:
"You notice I keep saying /sense of Oneness/."

I have never seen the emphasis expressed by / ...../

Is this an American thing or should it be something else?

I believe it is a typographical tool that denotes the use of Italics which are used to provide emphasis or contrast. Reading HL #3547 the words appear italicized.
