Who is "Uncle" in Heavenletter # 4121 ?

Hello Gloria,

I have a "cultural" question concerning HL 4121.

The first sentence of the fourth paragraph refers to a play (?), I guess, the line "Uncle" does not ring a bell to me. Could you please explain to me so I can transpose that in the french culture ?

Thank you in advance.

Love.

Chantal

This is such a good

This is such a good question, and a necessary one.

This is an idiom. Somehow it has to come pass that when you want someone to submit to you, you say, "Say Uncle."

For instance, if two boys are having a physical fight in the schoolyard, and one gets on top of the other and the one on top has vanquished the other, the boy on top might say: "Say, Uncle, and I'll let you up."

So to say Uncle is a way to surrender. Now, let's look at what the Heavenletter says!

You have burst forth onto the stage of life on Earth yelling "Uncle." You have conceded.

Yes, we concede. We give up!

Does that make more sense now?
Thanks for asking your question, dear Chantal.
