What sally will the world bring forth today because you let go of a long-held reproach?

This is a hard one. I will

This is a hard one. I will rely on Jochen to help.

It's rather old-fashioned to say: We will sally forth into the world.

It is a verb. I don't think anyone says that any longer. I imagine it means to go out into the world or to a shopping center or wherever we might sally!

Jochen, what do you think, and what definition do you find?

Engin, beloved, if you

Engin, beloved, if you continued the thread you had started under your other question about today's Heavenletter, all the comments would show. Do you know what I mean? Now I had to add another comment so attention could be brought to this in the Community section.

When there is a new forum topic, there have to be two responses to it before responses show!

Loving you,

Gloria

sorry...

Sorry, I did not know that trick. I just tried to draw attention because I could not get this sentence. It rings no bells, nothing ;)
in the dictionary there are many meanings to "sally" and all of them fits ;)

Dearest, no need to be

Dearest, no need to be sorry! I posted that so everyone will know. You gave me the opportunity!.

Sally

This is really a hard one. I found wonderful German translations but they are of no use here. I looked it up in Webster's Unabridged, Random House Unabridged -- there are so many possibilities even if you leave out the military meanings. I'll try to pare it down to something (hopefully) useful by quoting a few things from the New Shorter OED:

- A leaping or rushing movement.
- A sudden start into activity.
- A sudden departure from the bounds of custom, prudence, or propriety.
- An audacious or adventurous act, an escapade.
- A breaking forth from restraint; an outburst of emotion or expression.
- A sprightly or audacious utterance or literary composition.
- A brilliant remark, a witticism; a piece of banter.

Canims...

Canim Jochen thanks infinitely many times.

Because of me you lost yourself in the hundreds and hundreds pages of a dicitionary. :blushing:

And canim Gloria, which one is OK? Can pls choose for me :p

Choosing sallies

Canim one, let's just look at the situation again: You let go of a long-held reproach, allowing the world the space and the freedom and the gusto to bring fort a sally. Just feel how the world longs to sally.

Another approach could be to look at the origin of the word:

ORIGIN late Middle English : from French saillie, feminine past participle (used as a noun) of saillir ‘come or jut out,’ from Old French salir ‘to leap,’ from Latin salire.

So perhaps you are allowing the world to take leaps of joy; or maybe to have a flash of inspiration. Something like that. Simply feel into it. Oh, and don't forget your little translation ritual.
