Remember Who Brings the Light
Gloria:
Dear God, I mentioned Ralph the other day, someone who left four urgent messages for me to call him back, and who, from my point of view, when I did call him back, wanted to debate with me about You, and I told him he ought to read Heavenletters.
Well, a mutual friend whom I'll call Frank, called me and indicated I really hurt Ralph's feelings. Frank, too, thought I was off-base to think everyone can communicate well with You and that I was boorish to say that Ralph ought to subscribe to Heavenletters.
Frank is an old friend, and we both can say what we think, and there is no offense, but I am left feeling that maybe I was too impatient with Ralph and also that I am talking to brick walls.
After that call, I wrote Ralph a gentle email, and, as before, it was returned to me because his email is still full and he can't receive any more. He knew his email was full, and I feel angrier yet. What happened to my neutrality and pure love?
God:
They are there, covered with a little smoke from a burning ember.
Gloria:
I have easily let go of bigger things than this, dear God. This seems to linger. Is it my ego?
God:
If it is not pure love, it is ego.
Gloria:
I'm sorry I called Ralph back in the first place. I was being "nice" again.
God:
Maybe you are annoyed because you really didn't want to call him back. You felt pressed to call him back, and so, you let his needs come before your own. Could this be what your pique is about?
Gloria:
Yes.
God:
You called him back when it was inconvenient for you and when you were already frustrated because your simple email was returned. You already felt duped.
This is an opportunity for you to remind yourself not to get swept up in other people's energy, Gloria.
First of all, what could Ralph, a virtual stranger, be calling you about that could be so urgent?
But there you were, Lady Bountiful, rushing in to save someone.
Can you let go of this now?
Gloria:
I think so. Finally. Thank You, dear God.
This brings up another thing for me.
How can Ralph or Frank or anyone think they can think the way they've always thought and still change their lives? They both want to.
God:
They believe that their identity is tied up in their beliefs.
It is hard for just about everyone to see that they have not been right. What are most arguments about but that? Each thinks he's right, and that if he's not, he's lost something.
Being right is holding on to the past.
And you have to remember that no one has to agree with you. No one has to see the light today. No one has to see the light! Remember Who brings the light, Gloria. Not you.
Nothing is urgent. You do not need to be urgent. What in Heaven is urgent? Urgent is a form of control, and control is always from fear. Remove the whole thought of urgency. Urgent says that some kind of disaster is imminent, and that you must stave it off.
Now, congratulate yourself on all that you are learning. What a learner you are! How wonderful that you learn. If you knew everything, you would not learn. Be grateful that you learn in life, and then go on.
Gloria:
Dear God, yesterday morning after I meditated, all of a sudden I felt despair land on me. I thought, Oh, no. I asked You to please remove it from me, but I still had it until my daughter, who had stayed home from work with a cold, called to tell me that Godspell was on TV. Totally unplanned, I watched it, and I was in rapture. No more despair!
A couple of things I would like to comment on. One was a statement in Godspell that Jesus made. He said that all we have to do is go by the word of God. That made me think of Heavenletters. Indeed, if we could go by everything You say, we would be in Heaven!
God:
Not just go by. Be in the words. Be in My thinking. Be in love. Be of My eyesight.
Gloria:
There were some things in the movie that, from my understanding, are not in line with Your thinking, such as, being a sinner and not going to Heaven and all that, as though You choose some and bar others.
God:
Those concepts do not sound like Me. They are not Mine.
Gloria:
Near the end, when Christ rubs off the stars and moons and suns of fun make-up from the faces of his friends, he begins to say goodbye. I saw the make-up as the special goldenness of being with him. At this point, I started to cry. I found myself as if I were right there with him at the end of his life, and it was unbearable that the gift of the presence of such a one as he could be taken away. He wasn't just any loved one. He was our hope.
God:
You were watching a drama, Gloria, and it is one you watched at the time Christ walked the earth. You witnessed it then, and you witness a fanciful replay now. And you knew then, as you know now, that one such as he cannot be lost. Not his power, not his love, not his presence. He is ever with you as am I. He takes shelter in you. He was a manifestation of Me as you are a manifestation of Me. He is yourself. I am talking to all My children, every single one as I say this.
I have told you that We are One. So then Christ also must be One. I am the Father, and you are all brothers and sisters. Heaven represents the kingdom of love. Christ represents the brotherdom.
