Loaded Questions
Note to Heavenreaders from Gloria: Jona, 15, wrote the following question for God after seeing only one Heavenletter, the one to Nancy L. about taking care of the elderly couple. Jona's mother works with Nancy, and Nancy gave Jona a gift subscription to Heaven. Nancy had no idea of how much good she was doing and what it would mean to Jona to know more of God's love. — Gloria
Jona to Heavenletters and God:
Hi, Gloria, this is Jona. I want to thank you for sending this question to God for me. I hope God's answer will help me stay motivated to work on my paper. Anyway, here are my questions:
Why does God expect us (believers) to honor and be obedient to the U.S. government when we know it's corrupt and unjust? I know the Bible says to respect the leaders God has appointed to power, but I also know that some of the laws they make are wrong, like killing babies. So should I protest against abortion, to honor God or not do anything, to honor the government?
How can I know where to draw the line between obedience and right and wrong?
I'm only fifteen. Government and politics is the least of worries for most girls my age. I'm in a geography and civics class, and it seems the more I learn about government and politics the more it disgusts me.
Is the way our government is being run the way God really wants it to be?
God to Jona:
Hello, Jona. Know how much I appreciate your coming to Me for truth. I applaud you for your good heart, for asking such important questions, for wanting the best for your country and for all, and for being open to what I say. Being open to what I say does not mean that you have to agree. It means being open to listening and gathering the heart of what I say. Some of what I say may not be exactly as you have thought. Whether you accept My words or not, please know My love and know it is yours.
You know, too, dear Jona, you can ask Me yourself and hear My answer in your heart.
I will begin by asking you some things, and then I will tell you more of how I see things.
What do you mean when you say you are a believer? I know you have a special meaning for that. It will be good for you to write that down for Me — and for you.
Who is your model? I believe it is Christ. Will you tell Me what makes My son admirable to you?
What is the topic or title of the paper you are writing?
And, imagine, just for the sake of argument, if you had to choose one, which would you choose — love or being right? In your eyes, which of the two is more important?
Now I will look at the wording of your questions. They seem to be either/or questions, and such questions, My dear Jona, seem to force an answer. They are loaded questions. You must unload them. Your questions assume. They have answers built in. They have your opinion stated as fact.
For example, let's break down this question: "Why does God expect us (believers) to honor and be obedient to the U.S. government when we know it's corrupt and unjust?"
Your question makes statements. I believe it states as fact the following:
I, God, expect you to honor your government.
I, God, expect you to be obedient to your government.
The U.S. Government is corrupt.
The U.S. Government is unjust.
Is it clear what I am pointing out here?
You also ask, "So should I protest against abortion, to honor God, or not do anything to honor the government?"
In this question, I believe you are saying that you honor Me by protesting against abortion. You are saying that you have only two choices: to protest or not do anything, and that by not doing anything, you are honoring the government.
Have I represented your questions accurately, Jona?
Do you see how your questions carry indictments?
You can reword your questions so they do not hold your convictions. You can open your questions. They are almost not questions as worded. They are almost statements of objection and protestation.
Let's talk about honor as in honoring your government. True honor comes from the heart. It is not artificial; it is not effort. Honor, as I sense the word, is something true in your heart. It is not against the heart.
You cannot legislate honor. If you don't feel respect, you don't feel respect.
On the other hand, because you do not feel true honor, it doesn't mean you have to dishonor.
Am I making sense to you so far, My Jona?
Whereas honor is something in the heart, it or its opposite, dishonor, can be shown in action. Someone can salute the flag, or burn it. Their action may or may not be true to their heart.
Obedience has to be in action. Your thoughts and your heart belong to you and to Me. Your heart cannot be forced to obey.
Obviously, in general, it makes sense to go by the law of the land. Certainly, many laws make sense. Stopping at a red light and so on.
Other laws may not make sense to you, but they just don't matter that much. You may think it's a nuisance to fill out this form or that form and have to get a license for your dog and so on, but this is not a cause you want to get into, of course.
But then there are other matters that have great importance to you, and they get your dander up. In your question for Me, you mention the killing of babies. I just want to mention that the killing of born babies is still against the law of the United States.
Clearly the issue of abortion is a matter of great importance to you. And from your heart and from everything you have learned and know, it is wrong. And your conviction pits you against those who see the issue differently. It makes two sides and splits My children into camps. It is a kind of war, dear Jona. Perhaps a religious non-violent war, but hostile nevertheless. I favor love.
How do you feel when you think of the issue of abortion?
How do you feel when you think of Christ or of Me?
Which way do you prefer to feel?
What do you prefer to think about?
Now I have asked a loaded question!
Jona, when Jesus walked the earth and he saw Mary Magdalene, he did not protest against her or what she did with her body. He did not honor prostitution, but he honored Mary and in so doing, he changed her life. Surely there were many others who scorned and threw stones. Most did that, and how much good do you think they did? They are not remembered. They are not honored. Christ and his love are remembered.
There is a law in your land that says women may have abortions legally.
In a way, that law does not concern you, dear one.
Jona, if there were a law that said: You MUST have an abortion, THAT would concern you. That is a law that you would break. YOU WOULD NOT OBEY THAT LAW. For what you decide and do in your personal life is between you and Me.
And so is it for the women who see differently and make other choices.
I gave My children free will.
I gave you permission to make mistakes.
My children do not always agree on what is a mistake and what is not.
Christ said, "Forgive them, Father, for they know not what they do."
Jona, help the pro-life cause by loving those who see differently from you. Turn them over to Me, will you?
Say: "In my deepest heart, I do not agree with what you are doing, but I know we are One with God, and that God takes care of you and reigns supreme over you and any unborn beings. I do not. I am not your master. I do not rule over you. I love my Father and my Christ with all My heart, and They have bidden me to love you and free you to Their love. So I bless you and bid you Godspeed.
"I ask God to forgive me for my having judged you. I ask God to forgive me for my mistakes. My God is a God of love, and I turn my heart to love rather than judgment. I bless God's creation, and you are part of it, and I will think of you with love, as God so thinks of you and of me. May God be with you always."
Jona, give yourself some time, and then respond to Me, will you?
And, oh, yes, your last question. Of course not. If everything on earth were in accordance with My vision, earth would be Heaven. There would not be need for any laws, because My children would follow the laws of love and peace. And, Jona, the day will come. All will come to Me, and there will be Heaven on earth.
I close now with great love for you. I bless you for your questions, and for your sharing them here with other loving beings like yourself. Know how much I love you and am with you. I am always with you, and My love for you is vast and deep. You are going to do much for Me on earth, Jona, and for that I am grateful.
