In Praise of The Dew of Heaven, Heaven's Letters

Where do you go when the desert
has been a liitle too dry
and the sands of life
have been like grit
in the teeth?

Where do you go
when the road has been
a liitle too long and winding for you,
when the day seems like
it's been made just a liitle extra longer
and painful
just for you?

Where do you go
when the rain
doesn't even seem wet
anymore?

You go to a safe place.

Where do the birds go
when the worms don't show
their faces,
and there is nothing to chirp for,
and they can't bring home
even a tidbit for the young they have borne?

Where do the eagles go
when they are tired from the flight?

They go to the nest,
the nest of God,
under His wings
seeking the solace
which they have found
by Her.

They hear the words of God,
after a season,
"Go on,
you rested one,
now you can fly
as you were meant
to fly."

They hear the words of God,
letters from God,
letters from heaven,
Heaven's Letters

Who will praise
the volunteers of this world
laboring in causes
near and dear,
bringing food to one,
water to another,
or words from heaven
to all who stop by,
whom we might call
a team sent from heaven
laboring behind scenes
to the applause of perhaps
only a few?

Who will praise one
who gathers each letter
every day?
What does she do
when she draws a blank,
if she does?

She waits for another letter,
bides her time
knowing it will come
as it has always come before.

And the readers in unison,
say all together
as in chorus,

"We will praise the ones
who give of their time
who give of their love.

We will adore what is adorable.
We will honor what is honorable."

Who gives a place of refuge
to those of every religion
every persuasion,
every color
every nation and tribe
male and female
and up or down in life
Especially those
who seem down
but for the moment?

It is those whom we praise
who give dew from heaven
when we seem to have come
to a dry and thirsty land.

Because they make
the rain to come
the sun to shine
the birds to chirp
the eagles to fly.

Because they make
the world go around
with help from all good hearted souls
with all good hearted souls...

Who sing in unison
of praise to heaven,
and heaven sings
in praise to them.

And heaven sings
in praise to them
and heaven sings
in praise to you.

love, markw

Nomvula,

Hi lovers of the wonderment

Hi lovers of the wonderment of life...
What's intersesting to me is how the writing awakens a desire in me to want to praise everything, for example your comments, and even those things in the world that go wrong from time to time. There is this desire to praise things whether they are good or even if they seem less than good, even if they are contained in my life. So I embrace those wonderfully "dark" moments in my life.

Yet as I reread this post this morning I was struck by its ability to take one from a state of beauty and love and exultation simply by mentioning the seemingly less wonderful aspects of our temporary sojourn on earth, "where do you go when (you are so numb to sensation that) the rain doesn't seem wet anymore?" I was feeling just fine and then I was reminded of the fact that I (and all of us) have had times of extreme bewilderment. The contrast was temporarily a bit too jolting for me. It seemed for a second I had lost a sense of yippeeness.

I think a mark of true joy and beauty is the ability to see suffering, maybe by helping starving and sick people in less "developed" countries and yet not be affected by this suffering except that it inspires one to help such people. (I'm thinking Mother Theresa now but this applies to many unsung heroes of love.) There is the ability to transcend this feeling of "this bad thing could happen to me", and change it to the thought that, "it doesn't matter what could happen to me, what matters is what is happening to others".

The beauty is that all of the "dark" moments in our life are in a conspiracy to help us overcome these moments, especially as we learn to rise above our past ways of seeing things. I hope my mumblings here enrich someone. love, markw

Dear Mark, I know just what

Dear Mark, I know just what you mean! It has to be so -- it's a conspiracy or perhaps a maze.

God bless you.

Hi Gloria and Nomvula, What

Hi Gloria and Nomvula,

What you wrote, Gloria, I can't help but think of the truth of it. Life is this maze and puzzle and we are here putting our pieces together.
And I am seeing how everything in our lives in spiritual in some regard.

For example, in my work I basically do repetetive things with my hands. Isn't this exactly what we do as spiritual beings, repetetive works of changings in our minds? We ponder various ideas over and over again until they become a part of us, and we establish a routine in our (spiritual) work. It is just like working with the hands, at some time one gets used to difficult manuevers when we repeat them enough times, and these manuevers become natural for us. This is just how it is when we are trying to understand a spiritual concept that might seem too challenging at the moment. Eventually it comes to us.

Walking down a path is just like how we walk on a spiritual path, one step at a time. And driving in a car or pedaling a bike, whatever, is like when we find a spiritual concept that really helps to propel us just a little faster than we normally travel in the spirit. And pollution from the car is like how we have to discard old ideas which were not working for us, as we have incorporated some higher ways of seeing things, no longer needing some of our old ideas and ways.

Mazes are like when we bump against a wall in life and we are not sure of the correct direction, but eventually we find the answer by persuing it.

Looking at television, and necessarily joining a lot of other people who are doing such, and absorbing its ideas, is like peering into well known spiritual works; a lot of others are gleaning ideas from these sources as well as you.

We are always part of some type of community even if we are alone, since there are also many others who are alone at the same time, and perhaps feeling alone as we might feel.

As some of our religions have various rituals, isn't this like our jobs? The first ritual is to punch in, and then (where I work there is stretching and announcements) and then the rest of it.

Why are there two ears? To hear both sides of the story. One mouth? Because we should say the same things to all, not speak out of both "sides" of our mouth, but speak one message clearly (while understanding there are times for silence or discretion).

I think there are so many interconnections between things; they are like the phone and electric lines that span the world.

Musing aloud, markw
