HL #3730 Where Love Is Waiting for You

Beloved Gloria,

in the paragraph:

"What does inspiration cost? It costs nothing. It is a total gift. It is free. It comes to you willingly. You may also have to look for it. What you look for, you will find. Your life is on a scavenger hunt for inspiration. Nevertheless, inspiration surrounds you. It is right before you. Keep your eyes open. Inspiration wants to be seen."

I wonder if we have to take "scavenger hunt" in the literal sense or in its referring to"A game in which individuals or teams try to locate and bring back miscellaneous items on a list." (Wordnik Dict.)
The literal sense seems a little harsh to me.

Thanks

Beloved Normand, an egg hunt

Beloved Normand, an egg hunt at Easter could be considered a scavenger hunt. I think the word scavenger has not a good connotation, yet a scavenger hunt is meant to be fun. Yes, scavenger hunt is like a game. Please keep on asking your questions. We all learn from them.

Beloved Jochen, what would you add?

Jochen must be sleeping at

Jochen must be sleeping at this time… I think that a scavenger hunt could be translated in German by Schnitzeljagd, which in french is "jeu de piste". A general term for all these sorts of games. I think that this would settle the matter.

Self-serving leaves you

Self-serving leaves you hungry, and leaves you hungry for you know not what. There is no way to fill up the hunger left by self-centeredness. You are left empty-handed. One chocolate after another, hand over fist, cannot satisfy. Only giving can satisfy. Only giving can fill you. That is the way of the land.

Is it way of the land or should it read: lay of the land?

Luus, I know the phrase "the

Luus, I know the phrase "the way of the world", but with "land" it's probably "lay". Not sure, though. The meaning seems to be something like "That's how it is."

I also have some difficulty

I also have some difficulty is catching the meaning of "that is the way of the land" It might be "That's how it is", as Jochen says, or "it is the custom of the land" or "it is the custom on Earth". I could not find any direct translation, only quotes.

What do you think, Gloria?

Okay, thank you, Luus,

Okay, thank you, Luus, Jochen, and Normand. There is the expression "the lay of the land." There is also the common expression: "The way of the world."

"The way of the land" seems okay to me. However, for translating purposes, it is really up to you. What is a comparable expression in your own language that gets the meaning across?

As our friend Jack from Down Under would say: I love you all.
