What is at the core of your asking for a second opinion or third or fourth? Is it the idea that everyone else must know more than you? Or can it be that at the core your fear or unwillingness to take responsibility for yourself? What makes you have to check with others?

could it be that the verb ARE is missing? or something else?

Or can it be that at the core your fear or unwillingness are to take responsibility for yourself?

Otherwise, if the two nouns in predicate were joined by and, then I am not so certain. There must be a simple rule if only I could remember it!
