Heaven #4902 What If We Did Love?
Dear Gloria,

parag. 7
If you feel you are a victim, you are taking life lying down. You do not have to lie down in defeat nor do you have to get up in anger. There is a more sustainable fuel than anger. Get up because rising is always the thing to do. I said rising, not uprising. You can take life by the hand. You can proclaim life.
I find it difficult to find 3 French equivalents to 1) get up, 2) rising, and 3) "uprising". Is get up the same as rising while uprising is not the same as rising? The dictionaries are not very clear about the distinction between to rise and to uprise. And to get up seems closer to uprise than to rise. I'm getting dizzy now!
Hi, Normand! This could turn
Hi, Normand! This could turn into a comedy sketch, couldn't it? We could do it in verse, or even make it into a musical!
Get up and rise are about the same, Get up could be looked at as more physical, and rise could have a more spiritual overtone, in this case anyway.
There is a big difference between rising and uprising. An uprising is like a revolt! A union strike would probably be considered an uprising. A revolution is definitely an uprising.
Does that help any, dear Normand?
Perfectly, dear One. Gracias.
Perfectly, dear One. And with this specific meaning of uprise, I can use a single French verb that can cover the 3 meanings at the same time: "lever" (physically and spiritually) and "soulever" for uprise
Gracias.
That is great, Normand. All
That is great, Normand. All built in to the beautiful French language. Economical too! 3 in 1!
