Heaven #3791 On the Front Lines

Dear Gloria,

in http://www.heavenletters.org/on-the-front-lines.html

paragraph 1

"Have you considered life a danger zone and that you must be on guard? You are ready to duel. You will take pot shots because you think you have to in order to get through the brambles."

I am not sure of the meaning of "to take pot shots" especially in the context of "getting through the brambles"

Could you paraphrase, please.

Thanks

I believe that pot shots

I believe that pot shots means you would shoot without taking careful aim. You would see danger coming but not specifically or clearly. Therefore you would just shoot. Getting through the brambles of life would be getting past the thorns.

Please say if this isn't altogether clear, beloved Normand.

You and all the translators are learning many idioms!

In french we would say

In french we would say "tirer au hasard" which would be "to shoot at random". Would it render the idea?
