Where You Are
You are in the midst of life. The midst of life isn't something you wait for. It is where you are right now. Sometimes you have felt that you are on the outskirts of life, but that is not possible. Whatever your life appears to be at this moment, you are in the midst of it. And there is no other place to be but in the midst. Beginning, end, you are in the midst. The midst is where you find yourself and where you begin. You might say that your life began in the middle.
There is no slow overture. You are not eased into life. It is as if suddenly there you are, paddling along in the middle of the river. It is hard to ascertain how you got there and what you are doing there, but you paddle anyway.
It is like you begin in the middle of a song that I was humming, or you were. You go from where you find yourself. One note is sung and another follows, and all the while you paddle upstream, downstream, paddle paddle.
Your oars are your heart. Your heart moves you along. Your heart is like a sentinel flag that signals to you, "This way! Over here! Come along with me."
Or your heart is the lighthouse that beckons you to shore.
Or your heart is the surge of the waves that carry you.
You are in the midst of life. And yet somehow you have been waiting for it to begin. There is no waiting in life. You may watch it go by, yet you are midstream in it. Perhaps you watch yourself.
Watching is okay. Waiting is not. Waiting is drifting. You were not meant for drifting. You are on the boat. You can also wade through life, but you might as well paddle yourself along.
If life is a field, then you are the furrower of it.
Of course, at the same time, life does come to you. It rushes along. Yet you don't just stand there. You meet it. You greet it. You live it.
You can sit and eat a meal and not pay it much attention. Regardless, you have eaten a meal. But you know the difference when you sit down and relish a meal. The same food eaten one way is a meal. Eaten another, it is a feast. Of course, it can also be devoured so fast that you didn't experience what you ate. You just ate.
With life, you can't have too much. Life is not more or less. It may seem so. You may think it goes long in between its moments. But all of life that there is, you have. It is yours. It is for you, and your life is also for Me. I am beside you in life. You may think I am on another shore, but, no, I stand right beside you. I am with you up and down the whole stream. I am never some place else. I am never off somewhere. I am always right where you are, absorbing what you absorb, absorbing you, My delightful child.
Consider that you are in the school play, and I am your audience. I applaud. I cheer. I only seem to be somewhere else, but I am actually right up front on stage with you.
If life is a parade, you are in it. But surely life is more than a parade. It is more like a panorama. There is no end to it. And always I march with you. I set the beat. You might as well march in cadence with Me.
