Where Does Compassion Begin and End?

God said:

I come first. Take care of Me, and you take care of everyone. Serve Me, and you serve all.

Don’t go off on tangents. Getting caught up in personal woe – yours or another’s – may not serve Me, the other person, nor you. Be a benefit to the world and all those in it, but do not set yourself apart. Do not set yourself above others. That is not Oneness.

You know the value in attending to a child or to an injured bird. It becomes the most important thing in the world. For a time, you give all your attention to My beautiful creatures. You act God in parentis, and yet you do not assume you are taking My place. When it comes to people in trouble, you are not to cling to their woe nor are you to cling to your idea of saving them from woe. Do you know what I mean?

It is one thing to help someone, and it is another for you to become dependent on your helping and for the other person to become dependent upon needing help and needing it from you. Perhaps then you both become self-serving rather than God-serving.

I don’t want you to ignore anyone, and yet I don’t want you to become so near-sighted that you lose perspective either. Sometimes not helping is giving help. Respect others enough to allow them their own strength. Give comfort, but do not indulge yourself nor another. Do not ooze comfort.

Where does compassion begin and end? Do not let compassion become pity because then you are making yourself superior. You are to pity no one, and then you will not pity yourself. Give care to another but not pity. Pity is stewing in your own juice. Give good care to the world but become not a caregiver. Do not give yourself the title. And do not make anyone pitiful.

You are a Human Being who walks on Earth. Give solace to the world, and yet do not yourself become dependent upon your giving solace. Do not become attached to a role that you play. Do not consider yourself the savior of the world, for then you overstate your position in the world and you become conscious of the limelight.

Christ and Buddha and all the Great Ones were not thinking of themselves. They were not thinking of their role in the world. They were serving Me and the Universe, and so they served mankind. They did not aggrandize themselves. They did not see themselves in special light. They were not looking at themselves. They were looking at Me. They were simple servants of the One God, and yet they were not in servitude. They served the world, and yet they were not in servitude.

They did not consider themselves great heroes. They were not focused on themselves at all nor did they neglect themselves. They were not self-sacrificing, and yet they served, and they did not star in their vision. Nor did they lay themselves out to be walked on by anyone any more than they considered themselves Guiding Lights. They shone My light. They attended to Me, and they loved Me. They served and encouraged all to become self-reliant and to follow the Star of themselves. They did not hover. They did not encourage dependence, theirs or another’s. They served the Higher Self that exists within all.

They served Me as naturally as they breathed. They were in service, but not indentured. They gave to Me in the same way that the sun and rain nourish the Earth. And so they gave to humanity. And so they gave to you.

I am speechless in front of the simplicity with which God's teaches this lesson on non-attachment! If only we could have teachers like this in our schools.
