What Goodness Lies around the Corner?
Beloveds, you sometimes feel that your life on Earth is endless. Although you are endless, your life on Earth is not. You go on forever while life on Earth is but a spin around the block.
Sometimes you feel dreary however. Sometimes life on Earth overtakes you. You become entangled in it. You may feel you are being held prisoner against your will, and you fear you always will be. In that case, you would rather forsake it.
It really isn’t life you want to leave but the burdens you seem to carry around in it. If you didn’t worry about things so much, wouldn’t you be ecstatic to be alive? If your thoughts didn’t go back to what was and what might have been or to what awful thing might lurk around the corner, wouldn’t you be happy to be alive? Might you not dance a jig? If you didn’t worry, perhaps you would like to stay on Earth forever. You would be eager to find out what goodness lies around the corner. You would jump for joy.
Often your thoughts about your life and the world you think you live in pull you down. Of course, it isn’t life that does. It’s your thoughts. Sometimes your thoughts are like a plague, or, at least, like a persistent cold that you can’t seem to shake.
And so, once again, I ask you to change your thoughts. Life asks you to change your thoughts. You do not have to be at the mercy of them. Throw off unhelpful thoughts now once and for all. They must get out of your way so that you can enjoy life. Discouraging thoughts are in your way. They can go, or you can leave them. Turn off one channel, and hop over to another channel in your brain. You’ve got it. You know you do. You know there is another channel or two with the music you like. Turn the volume up.
Caught in woe and worry, you may forget that you can focus on what is lovely. This does not mean you bury your head in the sand. The other things, the things that you don’t like and that pull you down -- they can get along very well without you. They don’t need your attention. Other things do, however. Blessed things do.
All the good in life that you yearn for yearns for your attention.
If you want love, focus on love. Focus on the giving of it, and it will come to you. There will be so much love you will trip on it. You will not be able to go anywhere without it.
Focus on your perceived need for love, and you focus on lack, and you will develop your lack expertly. Perhaps you have.
Focus on good health rather than illness. One is love-based and the other fear-based. Which would you rather have?
When you go to the store to pick out a dress, you don’t choose the one you don’t want. You choose the one that appeals to you. It would seem that you are smarter in fashion than you are in life.
When you go to the grocer’s, you don’t go looking for the bruised apples. You look for the shiny red ones.
When you buy a car, you don’t choose the one you don’t want. You don’t take one you don’t like for a test drive. You don’t buy the one you don’t like and take it home with you and then complain about it forevermore.
If you can choose fashion, fruit, and transportation wisely, I think you can choose your thoughts wisely as well. Why not? Certainly you don’t need to let the world and TV and magazines choose them for you.
