The Journey You Are On
You direct the movie you are in. And yet, you are not the only director. There are other directors for choreography and settings and costume and such. You play a major role, but not the only role. And so you sail on the ship of life, Captain of the Ship, and yet not Captain of the Seas.
Beloveds, you are not adrift on a raft without oars in the middle of a river. You have not abandoned ship. You are Captain of the vessel you sail on. You are the Doer and the Done, and you are instrumental.
Sometimes you ask questions like: "What is this whole voyage for? Even if I wind up at the perfect destination, what am I doing meanwhile? What is the point of trying to keep up when my destination is assured?"
Your destination is assured. The journey is not. The journey is what you are here for. I set you off on the Seas of Life, wishing you a great journey. I asked you to see the sights. I asked you to contribute to the journey. I asked you to accompany other riders and passengers. I asked you to be a fine rider and make the ride comfortable for all the passengers. You are Captain, and you are rider, yet the ride is not free, and as Captain, you take responsibility for all the passengers. You do not sail alone. The voyage you take is like a letter you write to Me:
"Dear God, today I took a rowboat, and I plied the oars. I took some of Your children along with me. I saw to it that they enjoyed the voyage. I understand that even a day trip is a voyage, and I am the Captain.
"Even in a car or on a plane, I am the Captain. I set the tone. I am Your Steward of the Universe. Wherever I am, it is the Universe I am taking care of. I am the Pilot, and I am the one who telegraphs messages. I am never on a war ship. I am on a cruise regardless of what vessel I steer.
"I know I stand in for You, dear God. I report to You. I stand in Your place. I represent You. I represent Greatness, not smallness. I aim to serve. I am not derelict in my duty to serve You, the King of All.
"I am to make myself recognizable as Your Ambassador. I am not to mislead anyone that I am anything but You. I am here to bestow Your love. I am here to represent You well. Smallness does not represent You well.
"As all are Your children, so now I make them mine. I nourish all. I make where I stand in for You a bright place where Your children like to be. This is the true congregation. Wherever I am, I give sustenance to the world. I am a harbor of love.
"The medal You pin on me has the names of all Your children whose steps I have lighted and lightened. Whether Your children are consciously aware that I am here in Your place, they will know that with me is a good place to be, and they will come back for more. They like traveling with me, and I like traveling with them, and I pave the way for all.
"I am a living example of Your love. I am a human being made in Your image, and I never forget it. You have given me a wonderful assignment, and I fulfill it. Every day, every moment, I fulfill it. This is the promise I made to You, and this is the promise I made to myself, and this is the promise I keep. You are the Captain of my Heart."
