Serving God Gives Great Energy
Gloria to God:
Dear God, I saw a part of a movie about Harry S. Truman. There were two points that touched me very much. One was the serendipity that seemed a great part of his career, and the other was how he was in his truth, God.
For an example of chance, he wanted to run for Governor of Missouri, but the political machine didn't think he was good enough. A little later, the boss of the political machine came to Truman and told him he had asked four other men to run for Senator, and each had turned him down, so he was asking Truman, as his fifth choice, if he wanted it.
About being in his truth, Truman said what he thought. He was sharp, and he was blunt. He wasn't cowed by the tide of public opinion. For example, the political boss who had not really favored Truman was later arrested for corruption and spent years in prison. When he came out of prison, no one would talk to him, not even his wife. He had not a dollar to his name at this time, and he never once approached Truman, who was now Vice-President, and Truman respected him for that.
When the man died, very few attended his funeral, a few family, and Harry S. Truman against all his advisors' advice. Truman went to the funeral to pay his respects. It was that simple for him.
So I think he had great character, and that seems to equate with being in your truth. Is that so?
God:
I don't think we can say that across the board, but, yes, for the most part. I believe the phrase is: "courage of your convictions." First, of course, he had to know what his truth was. You have to be clear on that before the courage can come. The word "courage" means "full of heart." When you go by the truth of your heart — that is courage. If you are uncertain what is in your heart, you cannot proclaim it.
Gloria:
Was Truman's programming then to be honest and in his truth?
God:
I think it was. He thought his thoughts.
Gloria:
And most of us have been programmed to dissemble?
God:
Yes. To dissemble so much that you fool even yourself.
Gloria:
Is that why I always used to be so influenced and swayed by what someone else said?
God:
For the most part. But there were also times you stuck to your guns because you knew your heart was right. You knew that what was in your heart was true. Then no one swayed you.
Gloria:
I would like to ask You about selfish and unselfish again. Many of us have thought it is noble to help others, that it's Christ-like to do so, and that to help others is really why we're here. I can't quite get a hold of selfish and unselfish.
God:
The question is not selfish or unselfish. The question is truth. Motive, intention, purpose are the question. The act itself is not the question.
Many people who are busy helping others are really looking for confirmation. "Look at me, what a good person I am. Look at all I do for others." This is how they have learned to make themselves feel worthwhile. But I am the Validator, not anyone on earth.
Here is the thing you must remind yourself of:
You serve Me. You are here to serve Me, not others. I keep you on track. If you get carried away helping others, you are not serving Me. One way to know whether you are serving Me enough or others too much is according to your energy level. If you use your own energy, you will be worn out. If you use Mine, you will sail on it.
If serving each Heavenreader were your goal, Gloria, you would be tired, but your goal is to serve Me. Of course, in serving Me, you serve others. Serving Me is easy. It is not hard.
Now, there is the mode of service to Me to be considered. Your mode, Gloria, would not be nursing, so if you became a nurse out of an idea of service to Me, you would be making an effort, well-intentioned, but an effort. Serving Me is not hard work. We come back again to truth. What is the truth of your service to Me?
Is it clear what I am saying?
Gloria:
Being in one's truth equals service to You, would that be so?
God:
Being in your truth is alignment with Me. Being in your truth helps you locate your area of service to Me. The closer you are to your truth, the closer you are to expressing Me.
Gloria:
So an artist expresses you. A gardener.
God:
However one best expresses me. Joy expresses Me. Sorrow does not. Sacrifice does not. Joy does.
