Like a Page in a Book
What do you say? Let's walk through today and enjoy it. Let's stroll through today. Let's be benevolent to today. Let's not be taken aback by today. Why, yes, let's take today in Our stride.
Today, you will neither yell for joy nor will you grumble. How about taking today as it is. You don't have to make it into anything but what it is. It is a day that has come to visit. It will leave soon enough.
Today is like a page in a book, yet in the book of today, you can turn each page only once. You can't rewrite it. You can't add to it nor can you take away from it. Today is what it is, and, tomorrow, today is gone away. Let's pat the day on its back while it is still here.
Today is like a corner you turn. Today has offerings for you. You cannot be sure in advance what it holds. Sometimes it depends on the corner you turn, and sometimes it depends upon nothing at all. The day is just doing its own thing. You won't take a day's whims personally, will you?
You won't beg today nor will you reprimand it. You will not demand from it. You will go along with it. "Okay, Day, if that's what you want."
Some days strew rose petals in your path. Some days are a rocky ride. All days are passing things. They are clouds blown along by the wind, or they are like rays of the sun shining. Regardless, days are nothing but days. They are not really your past, present, or future. They are just a stage you walk on. That's all that they are.
And yet you pin your hopes on them, or you give them a hard time. Beloveds, days aren't doing anything to you. Days are just the passages they are. Some are wide, and some are narrow. Some you march down. Some you squeeze yourself through, yet a day is just a day. A day is as innocent as you.
One day warms you. Another day chills you. Well, beloveds, warm your day, or cool it down. Partner with it. Help today carry its joys.
You have gotten through every day.
And when your days are at an end, simply transfer your allegiance from days to Eternity. That's not a bad deal. It's okay. It's as good as gold this deal.
You have a contract. It's not one-sided. It's fair. Days have had you, and you have had days. You must admit it is a kind of love affair you and days have. Of course, days are a little more dispassionate than you. They have more equanimity. Nothing troubles a day. A day just does what days do. It uses itself up, and it doesn't mind. It isn't always counting on you to provide for it, yet it always provides for you. Whether it takes you in a limousine or a donkey cart, it takes you, and you go with it. With complaints, you go with it. With joy, you go with it. You might as well cooperate. You may get perturbed all you want. Your day doesn't get perturbed. It has too much plowing to do than to have time to spar with you. It's not that the day disregards you. It simply picks you up and takes you with it.
Your day is a like a silent partner. It sustains you whatever you may think of it.
The day knows where it is going, and, ready or not, you simply have to go along with it until it is finished. Beloveds, today the sun is shining on you.
