Hi all,
What does the very last sentence mean in this HL?
Remember, I don’t mean gushing love but love intelligent.

My impression is that something is missing in this sentence. Might it be like "remember, I don't mean gushing love, but love is intelligent.

What you say is the correct understanding of the sentence. It could have read, as your understanding indicates:
Remember, I don't mean gushing love, but remember love intelligent.
OR
Remember, I don't mean gushing love. I mean love intelligent.
The way it is written originally is less formal, yet it is also correct usage in English. I am going to guess that Farsi is a more consistent language, probably more formal. Of course, you want your translation to make sense in Farsi. What would the translation be in Farsi, word for word?
I have long heard that English is one of the most difficult languages to learn because it allows so many choices. How did you learn English, Oldooz?

Well... Farsi doesn't appear to be a very formal language. One may encounter a completely new lagnappe when it comes to informal Farsi.
The translation in Farsi may be sometimes word for word and sometimes not.
I first began learning English when I was nine or ten. At that time it was difficult for me to learn but now while trying to learn French, it doesn't seem that much difficult. French is breath-taking... (wink)

Yes, it was. Children begin learning English when they are twelve. In recent years there have been a lot of private language institutes when many languages are taught. Parents are encouraged to have their children learn English before they begin at schools. :-)

This makes my heart feel good, Oldooz. Of course, this is one-way. Maybe one day Farsi can be an elective language. When I was in public school a long time ago, the only languages offered were French, German, Spanish, and Latin. I don't think Latin is offered any longer, or offered much.
