I'll be very grateful if any one can help with this:

Too often your heart has been nailed shut, and it bleeds.

Could you please give me a synonym for "nailed shut"?
I seem to know the words' meaning one by one ..but together.. no idea!

I just want to add that in the expression "nailed shut" shut is by way of emphasis. It is totally nailed, not just a nail here and there, but sealed, closed tightly etc.
