Above all, Serving God

God said:

Keep your vision high. It is valuable to look into the eyes of everyone you meet, and yet it is also valuable to remember to keep looking up. You are here on Earth to give service to Me. If you give all of yourself away to individuals, you keep them and yourself focused in a narrower range. It is true that all the good you do benefits all, and yet it is time for you to focus now on a broader service, just as it was for the Great Ones.

The Great Ones were not thinking: “Above all, I serve individuals.” They were thinking: “Above all, I serve God.”

If the Great Ones focused only on their service to individuals, they would have been confining themselves to limited service. Please do not misunderstand Me. One who serves another, serves Me. When you take care of even one person all your life, you do serve Me. Service is service. What is done for one is done for all.

At the same time, the Great Ones' service extended beyond the blessings they gave to individuals. They gave plenty to individuals, yet always their allegiance was to Me. They had the energy and love and wisdom to serve individuals because they knew they delivered a vaster service to Me. They did not make themselves important. They did not broadcast themselves, and yet they did not keep their service to Me private. They did not keep Me private. They broadcast Me. They did not boast, nor did they keep themselves and their service to Me to themselves. They did not hide out. They gave an example.

They supported and uplifted people according to their times. They walked the Earth and gave away their service to Me to all they could reach. It is oversimplifying to say that Buddha stayed in one place, and people flocked to him, yet let Me oversimplify. Christ and others traveled the Earth and spread My messages everywhere, and they spread My messages constantly. They knew that their mission was greater than repeated healing, do you understand Me? They expanded themselves. It was Myself that they got out there to the world.

Before radio and television, they served Me to the populace. They were not making a name for themselves. They were making a name for Me. They did not hide themselves from public view. Their modesty and humility did not come before their service to Me. They might have liked staying simple individuals with only their immediate world in mind, yet they went out and exposed themselves to the world in their service to Me. They did not keep silent.

I am not telling you to go out and become a missionary. I do not ask you to go door-to-door. At the same time, you have the internet and you have email, and you can take some responsibility for sharing Me and yourself with others on the internet. You are not meant to be a recluse when it comes to Me. You are in the world. Perhaps you already share recipes on line. Perhaps you share your troubles. Perhaps you share anecdotes, beauty tips, and are active in online dating. Forgive Me, dear ones, when I say to you: “What about Me? Have you left Me out? Do you keep to yourself My popularity with you?”

If you share a favorite recipe, can you not share Me? If you gossip, can you not share Me?  If you talk about a movie you saw or a book you read, can you not share Me?

Heavenletters make it easy for you to share Me. Not everyone in the world is going to read My words as avidly as you, but wouldn’t it be nice?

a way for everyone

"It is oversimplifying to say that Buddha stayed in one place, and people flocked to him, yet let Me oversimplify."
I like oversimplicity. Besides, can you imagine Buddha sending emails? Or a Zen master teaching to fools in the streets? Or a Sufi trying to speak sanely to people?

Yes, I can, Emilia.

Yes, I can, Emilia.

I can too. In Zen, the last

I can too. In Zen, the last of the ten ox herding pictures (that symbolically depict the whole path) is "Entering the Market with Open Hands", and it comes after "Return to the Source" which is picture #9. Entering the market with open hands, I assume, there is no desire to teach but readiness to respond in whatever way that fits the need of the moment.

I'm much less sure about emails. Okay, I'll help you should it get too much.

Thanks for your help!

Thank you Gloria and Jochen, your imagination is more vivid than mine.
You come back "to respond", right Jochen, not to give indiscriminately. If I "get It", I suppose I would also give just by walking in the marketplace and buying some chocolate.
I wonder about the phrase I quoted above, it seems to me it stands alone. What I like of Heavenletters is that in each basket there is food fit for everyone.

Beloved Emilia, this has

Beloved Emilia, this has nothing to do with imagination.

Going back to your original statement, as I remember it, do you imagine that the Great Ones did not also suffer fools?

Gloria hit the nail right on the plank...

Gloria, sweetest, "imagination" comes from "image". God made us in His Image and those sweet words that come from your soul can't help but be of His Image; they flow from an obedient Imagination that is clearly tapped into Spirit. You are always tapped into Spirit, according to my way of seeing. My writing is from the heart of a very old school teacher and pastor. Forgive my presumptions, please.

George

I suppose

I suppose the Great Ones didn't suffer fools, but they could see them very well.

Ah! Of course, you are so

Ah! Of course, you are so right.

Emilia, I usually try not to

Emilia, I usually try not to speculate about things that are not my experience yet. Making an exception, I believe it's more than responding. You will be all you are, you will be joyful, you will be in love, perhaps madly in love, not needing a specific object for your love. What will someone like that do upon entering the market place?

For some, or perhaps for everyone at different times, this is more easily grasped when it is explained as if it were some specific state or activity, like "surrender" or "giving" or "serving". I believe that is why we have those stark and absolute Heavenletters and then others that are more obliging and give some explanations. You are so right about the baskets.

"for some..."

Yes, to be, Jochen, that will be a great "response".

My basket is empty, I do not need any food, nor recipes, I like the container, until it will vanish in my hands.

What will someone like that

What will someone like that do upon entering the market place?

That one will be raw. There will be this intense rawness to that one who is in love. It will feel like jumping into a lake on an early spring morning before sunrise, feeling the intensity and sensations of being alive and being in peace. It feels like paddling into the ocean as a big storm brews up huge, perfectly shaped waves, while smiling without the slightest hint of fear. It's like reading inspired poetry and watching the tears role down without caring why. That one will be alert and relaxed.

I looked into a 2 year old friend's eyes once as she sighed, perfectly content and smiled.

What a Heavenletter! Maybe we could send this one out to all new subscribers. What better way to get Heavenletters out there than a suggestion from God?

Oceans of Love

Beautiful, Senor. Now I have

Beautiful, Senor. Now I have to go back to see what this Heavenletter says!

Don't you just love the way Emilia things?

Rumi, centuries ago before Christ, said: I knocked at the door of understanding for years. It finally opened and to my surprise I found my self on the inside." That's sort of true about this funny life busyness. The quote is in my words.

George

knocking

Oh, Rumi, I would like to get drunk with his same wine. I do not know better place than a tavern.

ABOVE ALL, SERVING GOD

DEAREST MAESTRO, ALL KNOWING, ALL LOVING, GOD, OF PEACE AND LIGHT AND GRACE ABOVE ALL

What a lovely HEAVENLETTER YOU'VE WRITTEN TODAY! REMINDING US OF HOW WONDERFUL IT IS TO SERVE YOU
AND YOUR WAYS, YOUR LOVELY IDEAS ABOUT FORGIVENESS, AND LEAVING THE PAST BEHIND.

And NOW THERE IS NO REASON, AS YOU SAY, DEAR MAESTRO, TO NEGLECT SHARING YOU ACROSS THE WORLD
IF WE LOVE TO SHARE A MOVIE WITH SOMEONE, OR IF WE LOVE TO SHARE A RECIPE - WHY NOT, AS YOU SAY
SHARE THE WONDER, THE HOLINESS, THE PURITY OF YOUR LOVING INTENT ACROSS THE WORLD?
'
NO I DON'T WANT TO KEEP MY POPULARITY WITH YOU A SECRET ANY LONGER !! WHAT A COMPLIMENT YOU GIVE
ME TODAY, SAYING "NOT EVERYONE IS GOING TO READ GOD'S WORDS AS AVIDLY AS YOU, BUT WOULDN'T IT BE NICIE?"

WELL, NOW, THANK YOU, GOD!!

Mary Moon beam, your words do some stuff!

Honey, they make us all love you so much! You sure tune your thought to a love filled cord!

George

drawing the line?

If you give all of yourself away to individuals, you keep them and yourself focused in a narrower range.

There are times where it is wise to be aware of how much does one give. I worked in a nursing home with the elderly for 15 years...as a nurses's aide. It has been a great learning school for me in that it taught me to RESPECT my limits. What!? Does not God say I am limitless, boundless and vastness? Yes, I believe it but I am also human! I gave myself away because I did not know a better way to do my job. Until the day I suffered a stroke at 49. Fortunately the stroke did not leave me paralyzed permanently but my employer with the union's cooperation fought against my going back to work. Anyhow it was a long drawn out battle which threw me in the pit where I finally became awake/aware of God's Hand. I lost my job because the system didn't want me anymore.
What a life. Forgive me if I've lost most enthusiasm for it! Too many years of seeking and not validated in anything I did or recognized for who or what I was has drained much of my enthusiasm for life in the world as I have known it.
For me, right now there is not enough CLARITY of this world/life/truth. I would love to be able to enjoy quality TIME where I could realign my SELF again and find the inner focus needed so I could accomplish MORE. I don't know how to really help others apart from spending myself until there is no energy to go around. It seems so complex at times.

I was a little stunned at yesterday's HL and that no one responded to it. Why is that? I'm not sure myself how I could respond to it!
Please give me/us more clarity. I yearn for so MUCH more!

Blessings for all,
Johanne

Johanne's words tell us about inside!

Johanne I too had a stroke that took out my right side. Yah, I had to lean to walk again, talk again, type again, and be me old fake George in a new form. I too was a nurse, but in the war. Yes, sometimes it feels like we have given more than we have to give. That's a God tease. He's always doing things with that old thing we learn to call "BODY" and sometime we catch on and sometime we just grunt, or sigh. your words Life at it's very best. Thanks

George

I sure relate to what you

I sure relate to what you say, beloved Johanne.

Until you mentioned it, I hadn't realized that no one had responded to yesterday's Heavenletter. And you were stunned by it! I read it over, and I don't understand why it affected you that way and no one responded. You did respond here, and I thank you.

But I must tell you that there is a lot in life that I don't understand.

Gloria, Precious I kept trying:

When I hit "Comment" a page popped up saying: "Can not find the page." Three or four time I tried to comment on that page. Perhaps some glitch gave us all the little end of the wish bone.!

Beloved George, Jochen and I

Beloved George, Jochen and I had to delete about a 100 or more spams in the past few days. Believe me, they were spam. And it was an arduous process to delete the post and various names of the same automatic spammer. The titles of the posts were interesting, but the posts were pointing to non-existent places. You didn't miss anything, dear one. And God bless you for reading every post and responding to everyone who posts. Loving you, Gloria

Gloria you give life.

Your job is huge. You are loved for doing the spam work with with Jochen. To take time to answer me is testimony to your love.

George

Beloved George, I just

Beloved George, I just posted a blog entry, and I would especially love to have your comment on it. http://www.godwriting.org/godwriting/old-photographs.htm

Will you comment under the blog? You don't have to register at all.

As I do once in a while, I

As I do once in a while, I build a comment made of two (or more) Heavenletters. I never feel I HAVE TO comment a HL everyday, but I have a strong feeling when I know that God is suggesting me strongly (but lovingly) to express something or manifest something.

Just the night before HL #3608 was released (The uncommented Rose after Rose), I had a long discussion with few friends about "expecting reciprocity in giving". One of those friends (our host that night), who is very generous in nature, is constantly complaining that he is always organizing events, inviting friends over for dinners, caring for everybody (which he does in fact) and that nobody calls him back even to take news. He feels "lonely" in his generosity.( I have been through that kind of situations in the past and even in the present but it does not upset me at all!)

Then he often gets very depressed, upset and grumpy and starts deciding who he will cut off from his list of friends to keep inviting or dismissing. I tried to explain to him that he should stop upsetting himself and that being upset has nothing to do with the people who seemingly upsetted you. But he wouldn't listen nor even hear what I was saying because he was too "upset".

The following morning, as I woke up, I just had in mind this conversation and I fell sad in anticipating that I would put myself "at a distance" from this friend should he keep criticizing most of his friends and keep on managing his black list.

Then I got up to start a HL translation but, just before, I read the HL: Rose after Rose which had just been posted. Reading it throughly, I could hardly believe that this HL was written exactly for that friend (amongst others of course). This friend is not into "overt spirituality" but this HL could not be more perfect than it was for the situation.

So I decided to email him and to the other friends that were at his place the night before, ROSE AFTER ROSE. I think he read the HL from is Blackberry and immediately sent me a reply after reading it. He thanked me for sharing what he called "this nice poem" saying that everybody could learn a lot from that "poem".

So that day, my way of commenting that HL was to send it to non-readers of HeavenLetters.
And I could not believe that yesterday came HL "Above All, Serving God".

Instead of exchanging receipes or jokes on Internet, I was exchanging God's "poem". In fact, I did that a few times for people who even never got back to read Heavenletters.

The lesson I get, in combining those two HL is that:

(1) never feel forced or pushed by God to be a missionary. We don't have to be converters or preachers. Anyway I'm not and I will never be.

(2) When examples or the Great Ones or even very simple people are brought to our sight, we don't have to feel guilty and start rushing in creating a cause to defend. God will inspire you to do something appropriate according to who you are and where you are. Imitation must come from inside, not outside. And it comes naturally when you set your mind to be available to your heart. And you don't need Google map for that.

black lists

I too have a "black list", which is more like a black hole, but I see you too, Normand, have a refrigerator where you put complaining friends. Anyway, your friend is right, "everybody could learn a lot from that -nice poem" ...except him I suppose.

"To set your mind to be available to your heart"...thanks.

At least, he cannot feign

At least, he cannot feign ignoring anymore…And there are witnesses!

P.S. Carissima Giuletta, mi piacio molto il tuo umorismo. (Sorry for the bad italian!)

witnesses lie

You always surprise me! First Fellini and now your excellent italian. Thank you for the homage.

I can't help seing you as

I can't help seing you as Giuletta wearing those beautiful hats in the garden, on a sunny afternoon. I must add that you also have something of Greta Garbo!.

But, above all, you are EMILIA. A perfect blend!

insightful

Greta Garbo, oh my, then I should have already retired from the stage!
Well, God says I am a debutante, so here I am.

Normand's wisdom is helping me grow!

I try to read each comment and comment on the comment. Your golden words of love have helped this old man reach into the pockets of heaven for understanding and joy. Thanks Normand

George

What on earth is Vision?

Vision isn't what you look at, it's sort of what you'd like to look at.

It isn't seeing at all, it a certain kind of knowing that changes you inner dial to God 101.

Looking up is the same as looking down if the LIGHT is on.

Heaven Letters help us see what were have always been looking at without the LIGHT being on.

George
