A hunter may hunt what he hunts. Whatever he hunts can run free. The idea is that the hunted is not tied up or trapped. What the hunter goes after is called game (not a game) but the hunted is game.

To some hunters, whether the prey is tied up or not, the hunted is fair game.

A thief might see an old person as fair game. Most of us know better.

Time sees us humans as fair game. Time sure gets a hold of us. And God is saying that Time is a trickster who has us in his grip. We go by time. Time has caught us. Time tells us one thing and not another. We are bossed by time. We follow time...well...religiously. Yet time can fool us, going fast or slow etc. We almost don't stand a chance with time. We can't win.

God tells us there is no time, only Infinity.

Hi Anneke~ While waiting for final word from Gloria, fair game means that you are subject to attack. If you voluntarily run with the bulls you are fair game to be gored or trampled. It is not that we see time as a legitimate object for attack, but time sees us this way.

It may be that the word "yet" in the sentence throws you off a little. Ordinarily it would introduce a different or opposite thought, but in this case the two thoughts are similar and follow naturally. If you read it and substitute "and" for "yet", it might make more sense to you.

Time is always ready to distract and deceive us from our focus on God. According to God, the main way that Time is a trickster is in convincing us that Time is Real. I've got to run now, I'm late.
