A Dancer on the Stage of Life
How fast the days of life pass. The days were upcoming, and now they are gone, and there is another herd of days waiting to appear over the horizon. You flip the pages of your life one after the other, and somehow they seem to assemble into what is called, sometimes fondly and sometimes not, your life.
That you are alive on God’s Earth is a wonderful thing. Think of it. You were sent to Earth as My envoy. This is extraordinary. What are the odds of this? I want to be sure you know that your being on Earth is not hit and miss. It is not by chance. It is the chance of a lifetime, yet it is not by chance that you have your feet on Earth. Nor was it without your knowledge that you came for this visit, and nor was it against your will that you came. You jumped at the opportunity. You knew it was an opportunity, and that it was your opportunity to take, and so you sallied forth and alit on Earth. You were not dragged down. You were invited, and you accepted, or you would not be here on the planet called Earth.
In any case, you are here with some of your life behind you and some of your life ahead of you. Let’s make merry! Whatever streets you have gone down, amiss or straight on, let’s make merry. What else is there to do but laugh at all the intrigue that seems to go on on the face of Earth. Who could make up a story with a plot like the one you are in? How would it be told, and how would you tell it? You are acting out the story right now.
What a story! And what a cast of characters! Who does the directing? Who chooses the parts? What a production! And how do all the t’s get crossed and the i’s dotted. Who paints these settings, and who changes them or takes them away? And how did you get here in this particular soap opera or comedy of errors or cartoon or mystery or action thriller or documentary? Something is happening, and you take part in it. You don’t know where it is all heading, and you have to ad lib a lot and seemingly dance to different tunes.
Sometimes you feel that you are on the wrong set, that you were supposed to be on a different stage. You mumble your lines, or you yell them, or you grow mute. And, yet, this is the stage you are in, and this is the role you play. It may very well be that what you see is not what you get. There is a lot going on behind scenes. Your life is not all about what’s onstage. The make-up and costumes are secondary. You are primary. In fact, you may be in many plays all at once.
You may be noticed, or you may not be noticed. Yet, all the while, you pace the stage back and forth. You stand. You walk. You sit down. You smoke a cigarette, or you bite an apple. Regardless, you are significant. There is no one who can take your place. There is no one who can play the part you play as well as you do, for there is no one on Earth or anywhere just like you. You are like no other.
And, yet, the part you play can change. You are not stuck with it. You cannot change who you are, and yet you can change the part you play. You can grow into a different part. You can change your tune. Your life can become a musical. You are already a dancer on the stage of life.
