# 5164 - might you - could you
Posted January 14th, 2015 by theophil
Dear Gloria,
is this correct or a good English, or ...?
Even on what you term a bad day, could you not be happy? Could you not savor the day? Even on a bad day, could you not savor the aroma of coffee? Is there a doubt that someone might be overjoyed to have the day that you may have complained about? And might you, if given what you call a bad day today, could you also not be happy on that same day? Is there really a day to throw away?
Thank you very much,
Theophil

Beloved Theophil, yes, you
Beloved Theophil, yes, you caught something that needed correction.
I believe there is meant to be a repetition. However, yet it would be better to use the same verb. Using might twice seemed right to me so the sentence now reads like this and is also punctuated so this looks more deliberate:
And might you -- if given what you call a bad day today -- might you also not be happy on that same day? Is there really a day to throw away.
Thank you for pointing this out. Danke!
