Like Life

God said:

Just about everything is more or less than you have customarily thought. Certainly, you have made too much of many things, and not enough of others. And yet, when all is said and done, there is nothing to make much of or little of. Life, as it transpires in the world of Earth, is but an ephemeral enterprise, motions made only to vanish the moment they seem to appear. Life chugs along on its tracks regardless of what you make of it, and yet life never was but what you make of it.

Perhaps it will be wise to make nothing of it because the surges and resurgences of life leave no marks on eternity. You are the one who is impressionable. Not life. You factor yourself in to world life. It is you, invincible you, who moves through the stream of life. Yet life in the world goes on with or without you. You splash in its stream and you stir it, and, all the while, it moves past you as if you were on the shore.

Natural creatures do not think about what life is and what they are doing in the middle of it. They simply live it. They experience it without thought about it. They do not try to tie it up. They do not plot and plan. They do not try to convert it. They are innocent. In their innocence, they make the most of every moment and every opportunity. They see opportunity everywhere, while you cut and paste.

You make all kinds of cognitions about life. Even as you trip and stumble, you feel you have expertise. You feel, at least from time to time, that you have the hang of it. And learn as you may, the life you live is a path never traveled before. It is ever a new world you walk in, and you are ever new to it. You travel over hill and dale, never knowing what the terrain will be, yet you follow maps you or others made, as if anyone on Earth knows where his foot will trod tomorrow.

Every day you alight on Earth, and every day Earth receives your footfall. Earth is neutral to you. The fractional earth at your feet nourishes every blade of grass, and yet it is neutral. It nourishes you, and yet it is neutral. Life pursues nothing. It follows its own proclivities. It goes down mountains and burst from the top of them too. Life, as an entity, enjoys itself, and would have you enjoy it. But, with or without you, life merrily goes along.

Life is not your opponent. You, like life, can be neutral.

In any event, life will come to you, peddling its wares door to door. Life finds you at home, and it finds you at work, and it finds you on your way to and fro everywhere. Life does not let you hide from it. It will embrace you. You are in life, so you might as well embrace it. Life is neutral to you, and yet it welcomes you. It lets you go anywhere any way you like, and yet it follows you.

Life would fan your flames and it would cool them down. Life in the world lies down before you and asks you to use it, just as it is, without attachment, without rule. Life offers you its transient treasures, and then leaves it to you to choose or not as you will. Life sets itself before you for you to travel on by foot or rail, or by any way you choose.
