A New Refrain

God said:

In life, you are like a silhouette of Who you are. The finite edges of the picture you see of yourself may be clear, yet you see not the center of yourself. You would like to believe that you are more than the eye can see, and yet you can't see your splendor. You climb up a hill, carrying heavy luggage, and wonder why your feet drag and your climb is slow.

Put down your luggage. You will run up the mountain side like a gazelle when you drop your luggage.

By luggage, of course, I mean the past. Must the past be so influential in your life? Must you carry it around with you? Must you drag it around as if you were chained to it?

The past has its limitations, beloveds, and yet you carry these limitations around with you. This does not weight life in your favor.

If the past were food, you would digest it and be ready for another meal later. However, in the case of the past, you regurgitate it. Or the past sticks in your craw.

Even if you had the most wonderful past, it's necessary to let go of it, for there is evolution waiting for you. Better moments are yet to come. You don't want to spend all of your life in kindergarten. You want to be promoted to a higher grade each year. Give yourself permission to step out of the past. No matter how harrowing or nurturing the past has been, step into new shoes today.

Be born anew. Let's have a new play on the stage of life today.

Looking backwards froze Lot's wife into a pillar of salt. We could say she was frozen in time. She froze herself, you understand. It was not sleight of hand on My part. To be frozen in time isn't what I desire for you. Step forward. Step lively. Be light of foot, beloveds. Enter Eternity.

Free yourself from the past once and for all. This is another way of saying to go higher. The past, even the most wonderful past, is not up to date. It is not even up to par. The past has outlived its usefulness. You are to skip out of the past, the long-distant past as well as a moment ago,

For how long do you eat reheated food before you say enough and decide to cook something new? Why would you apply reins to your life? Why would you harness your present to the past? Why perpetuate the past? The past is an old bathrobe. It's time to throw it away.

Even if in your childhood you had trauma, even if you were beaten, even if you were tied up in a tiny basement room, why would you imprison yourself now in recriminating thoughts of your childhood? Now is the moment to give yourself another chance.

Does not the sun rise anew every day? Let your life rise with the sun.

Salute a new life beginning right now. Make room for it. Whatever has been, you are to author a new script now.

If you had a broken record on your victrola, you would stop playing it. And yet, stuck in the past, you play your old life over and over again. Come, choose a new record, and play that. Play it once, beloveds. Fill up with a new choice of what your life is to be. There is a new refrain for you to learn and then to let go of.

Lot's wife

I never understood what the story of Lot's wife turnining into a pillar of salt meant. Now, with this letter, I see that this story is allegorical; it is about not freezing ourselves by being transfixed by our past. For me, of all the insights of Heavenletters, I think that a new orientation to the past is about the hardest to accept. It is interesting to see that this idea was described thousands of years ago in the Old Testament.

A NEW REFRAIN

Dearest MAESTRO, GOD OF LOVE AND LIGHT AND JOY,

What I've learned from this HeavenLetter today is how important it is to RISE WITH THE SUN
every morning! To feel the sweet newness of a bright new day. To let yesterday,
and yesterweek and yesteryear go, for the radiant NOW of the sun and the love that
pours from the sun and its tremendous Light that illumines the world is what I shall meditate
on and it's my NEW REFRAIN.

THANK YOU MOST OF ALL FOR YOUR PATIENCE! I LOVE YOU WITH ALL MY HEART!

"frozen in time"

Lot's story has been one of my favourite and one upon which I have long meditated.
I was frozen in my past and afraid to move ahead in life. I loved each stone, literally, of my childhood's house, every leaf, every sound. Then I realized that what had remained was just an image, so far, so vague. I moved on, but still keep it in my heart.
This is an hard game, of filling and emptying, of lerning and letting go of. But we have no choise, this is the rule of living in time.
That's why I want to "Enter Eternity".

salt

Very beautiful and touching, dear one. Salt is used for curing (preserving). I do not remember particular things I had to leave behind – just one immense sense of loss of I know not what. But the effect, although I'm not nostalgic, has been the same, a feeling of not being able to really move on in life. Heavenletters are slowly teaching me that nothing is ever lost and everything seemingly lost lies ahead of me, only much much better, fuller, leaving nothing to be desired. There must be a second innocence, reachable in embodied life, that is even better than the first that got lost. My tentative attempt to name it would be conscious innocence or innocent consciousness. It does not need a name, I guess, but it feels like something worth living for.

"conscious innocence"

That is why I seem not to grow older! Just salt.

It is my hope and, yes, my believing, that "nothing is ever lost and everything seemingly lost lies ahead of me, only much better, fuller...". Thank you for telling me so, I know you understand what there is in my heart.
Loving you.

Fond memories and innocence

Emilia, your story of your tender feelings for your childhood home leads me to mull over the many attachments to the past I had held fast to. Certain relationships and little triumphs that I look fondly back on, like bouncing my infant son gently on my knee when he had colic and couldn’t sleep. Curiously, I think I have been even more attached to certain “accomplishments,” things I had doggedly studied and imagined I had mastered and believed my understanding had penetrated deeply. Was all this effort wasted? I guess part of my difficulty with letting go of these attachments relate to this kind of self-judgment. But I can shine a more kindly light on all this effort. I can see it as useful, helping to get me to where I am today, a place that I find to be so much better than where I was trying to go with all this studying and learning and theorizing.

Jochen, I really like your idea of “innocent consciousness.” It really captures the idea of letting go of all the dusty past. Our innocence is fostered by the realization that it is not needed now, if it ever was. Our consciousness can then be more fresh and new and more creative.

Gloria see the past of our lives many ways....

My very long past has been lots of things like garbage, luggage, anchor, sail, shoulders and verses of a long beautiful song being sung to me from somewhere overhead.
As garbage I learned the joy of composting it. That made me grow.
As an Anchor I learned the joy of holding still till the current changed.
As a Sail I learned to enjoy the wind in my face.
Standing on the shoulders of Heavenletter lovers I learned how to be more than I could be.
As that Song of Songs it has started to bring me the eternal rest of sweet final dreams of His Love. How nice it it.

George

My good friend, George

George, you never cease to amaze me.

Love,

Chuck

A New Refrain

Thank you so much for these great thoughts and good reminders Gloria...i definitely needed them...the past is so much impacting my present that I focus energy on it and lose in the present.
