The Cup of Life
Bring the cup of life to your lips, and drink of it. Do not lag in Life, holding it back. Do not tug at it either. Let life arrive, arise, and speak itself. Your life does not need so much concern and interference from you.
The overt structure in life is only a part of it. It is not life itself. Life appears, and appears again and again. Ever new. There is nothing stale in life. It is not recycled. It is life effervescent. It is life arriving and making room for ever more arrival. It is not meant to be your drawing and redrawing of it. Let your life depict itself.
Life is on its way to you. You need not run after it. But you do need to welcome it. What you think of your life matters to it very much. What you think of your life is your say of it.
Let life flow in and out to you. Let life be life, not your bondsman. Free your life to its own practice. You need not wield so much authority of it. Your life has its own volition. You are not to be its taskmaster. You are not its trainer. Life is to teach you. The greatest thing you can learn is to embrace it. Embracing life is not the same as holding it still.
Consider your embrace of life as a peck on the cheek of it. A quick hug. You do not hold life overly to you. Treat your life more as a child you send off to school.
Be not a critic of your life. Sometimes you have nagged at it. It is a wonder that your life has held up so well, considering your attitude toward it.
Seldom are you pleased. Do not delude yourself that you hold off adversity by berating it.
There are circles in life. Life turns this way and that. But all of life is as if one motion. The wheel of life turns. There is a momentum to life, and you want to get on it.
Anticipate the joyous, and so pave the way for it. Have you not paved the way for disturbance? Have you not sometimes interfered in the tides of life. Starting today, honor your life. There is no other one like it.
Whatever coin you find in your hand, it is nevertheless coin. You are not the minter of it. But you are the spender of it. Do not hoard. Spend easily without being a spendthrift. Let life flow through your fingers at its own speed. Let your life be. You do not own it.
You try to perfect your life and so you block it, impose limits on it, even sneer at it.
You do not even own your body let alone life. There is not ownership when it comes to life. There is only the living of it.
Look for the joy. Have you not researched and studied the pain? You have perhaps too much counted life, found some pages worthy, others not. Have you not looked at life the way you study your face and would change this and that aspect of your nose according to some ideal you have imagined? Yet noses are noses, and they serve their purpose. Their looks isn't their measure. They serve their purpose no matter what you think of them.
Nor is what your life looks like the measure of it.
Be more approving of your life. Avow it more than you disavow. Your life is not a stepchild. Your life is God-given and longs for your appreciation. It does not need your depreciation. Like all living things, life needs your love to honor it. You are not meant to reject your life. You cannot send it back. There is no point in pouting over it. Greet it instead.
