Look for God in a Crowded Room

Gloria to God:

Dear God, I feel so companionable with You in the mornings. It's Our time. We have a date, and You are always waiting for Me until I'm ready. That is Your constancy.

God:

My calendar is wide open. It says one thing: My children. I am focused on My children. My attention never diverts from them. So My calendar is filled up with My children, wide open and filled up all at the same time. Waiting for you and filled with love. Waiting — what is that? It is readiness. I am always ready. It is My children who have to get ready, who think they do, but you were ready from the moment I conceived you, so you have been ready for a long time.

What does it mean to be ready for Me? It means to just know it. Know you are My choice. Know you are My beloved. You, yes, you, just as you are. This is not a dress-up party. It is much more casual, but you think you have to fuss and get ready and change into something else.

All that stuff is for you, not for Me. When you start to think of Me and to consider Me more and yourself less, you will know that you come to Me as you are. No preparation. No performance. No judging. We are meant for each other. We are intended for each other. Yes, you are My intended. You fell asleep and forgot for a little while. You forgot My presence and your identity.

Forgot. Forgot is the same as not believing. So you do not believe in your identity or My presence. When you remember, you will know. When you remember, you will forget yourself no longer. You thought you were a reflection from a mere mirror, when all the time it was the Sun you reflected. You have been looking in the wrong place. You have been looking at the details instead of the picture. Lost in details. Secreted in details. Hidden in details and forgetful of the whole. Myopic in details.

There is no stretch to come to Me. You have just put yourself under a spell so you think there is a distance. You have put yourself on automatic disbelief. You have hypnotized yourself into believing that you are a body alone on earth, surrounded by other lone bodies. Unhypnotize yourself. Come back to your true love Who has never left your side. Come back to where you are, here, with Me.

Gloria:

I can't QUITE believe. I ALMOST believe, dear God. I believe You are here right now —

God:

You believe I am here right now because your attention is on Me.

Gloria:

So when I don't really feel You are around, it is because my attention is elsewhere.

God:

Simply that. Attention doesn't mean words. Attention means openness. When your eyes are closed, you see darkness. When your eyes are opened, you see light.

Gloria:

Dear God, if it were only so simple.

God:

It is so simple. It is so simple that you miss it. Open your heart to Me. Your heart is your eyes. Open your heart to the Guest you have been seeking for so long.

You do make a time for me in the morning. Sometimes in the afternoon you make time for Me. Make time for me all the time. Make Me the point of your time.

Gloria:

I know You best when I am writing. When I am not writing down Your words, I may have glimpses of You, but I don't know how to make the glimpses last unless I write You down. Writing down helps me to focus. Is that it?

God:

Unless you personally are writing down, your mind flits. Writing down keeps you looking in the right place. Eyes open anywhere to anything won't bring Me into focus.

When you are looking for someone in a crowded room, you find them because you focus your eyes.

Be looking for Me. Be looking for Me with your heart. Say:

"My loving God, I want to have You in my awareness always. I want to know You are with me every minute, not just some. When You are in my awareness, I believe in You. When You are out of my awareness, I am not sure whether you are a dream or something I made up and believed in for a while. Much of my day is spent thinking: 'Where are you, God?' As if I am waiting for You to appear. As if I am waiting around for You instead of seeking You out.

"I understand now that when I am looking for a friend in a crowded room, I don't sit in a corner and wait for him to appear. My eyes scan the room for him. Maybe I get up and look for him. If I were not looking for him, I might pass him by, for that is what I unfortunately do with You, dear God, I pass You by.

"What a shame that is. To have missed You when You were right here.

"So now, my God, I think: 'God is going to be where I am today. No matter where I go, He will be there. So I will have Him in mind. I will be comfortably alert for Him. I know I don't have to race to find Him. Easygoing seeking will do, for He has His eyes on me.'

"So, dear God, I will have my eyes open for You today. I will know in my heart that You are here, and then I will find You. If I think You may or may not be where I am, I may or may not find You. But when I know You will be there, I will know I am not forsaken, and I will find You because You found me long ago and have been waiting for me to show up.

"I am the one who has been absent. You have ever been present. Your eyes have never left me. Now I give You my eyes to look into, and that's how I see You."
