Why Do We Resist Surrender?
I ask this question to many of the people I speak with about Surrender. Why are you resisting? What are you resisting? Quite often the answer is not always easy to come up with but I can guarantee that it is about fear.
As humans we like to stay within our comfort zone even if that comfort zone is not really comfortable for us anymore. We stay there because the unknown can be scarier than the known. I remember when my son was about to deploy to Afghanistan I felt the need to worry. If I did not worry about him it somehow felt as though I did not care. I did care and I realized that I cared enough about this child to STOP worrying and to place his care into God's hands. What a relief it was and continues to be. As I write this he is in training for the Special Forces and moment by moment I Surrender his care.
To Surrender is to put the care and control somewhere else. It does not mean that we do not take action where action is required. It just means that we understand on a higher level that we can release the how, why, where and when, to a force that is beyond our dreams and just a breath away. This place is In the Hand of the God. To me, this is not a bad place to put my cares and worries and I have chosen this over my pain.
As we Surrender we must go deep within ourselves to face our fears. To slay the dragon and to then let God take hold of our lives and direct them. Why do we resist this? Again it is just our fears. Oh, if we could only take fear out of our human consciousness, what a world we would live in. No war. No poverty. No illness. I ask you to remove your fears not only for yourself but for the world. Place your fears one by one into your flag and let the Universe work with them. See yourself whole and healed. See yourself as the abundant and loving person that God sees.
I have seen this work in my own life. Day in and day out I have been able to release my worries into the care and control of God. Is it always easy? No. Do I sometimes resist too? Yes. I am human and it can be scary for me too. But in the hand of the Creator it is not as scary as we might believe. Join my hand with yours and let us both take the hand of God and place our flags into the loving care of this benevolent and caring Being.
